Ski Company
Background
I was participating in the Entrepreneur Expo in my past hometown when I was approached by someone from on of the other businesses. He asked if I could make a logo for the ski trails that he managed. Our discovery call taught me about the passion and community behind this project, and I was excited to help bring a breath of life to their branding.
Research
The client had built the reputation of his nonprofit on family, fun, and the outdoors. He mentioned that he wanted the logo to have a lot of fun personality. The idea of using a dinosaur came up since the trails were named for different animals. I loved this concept and ran with it.
Finding references for a skiing dinosaur was impossible, so I used several images of walking poses to guide my design of legs that normally wouldn’t be able to function on skis.
Strategy
Aesthetics
Using earthy, natural colors was an obvious choice because it was an outdoor company. These colors also worked well for a dinosaur, solidifying the decision. The circle frames the other elements, containing and tying them together in a unified shape. The typeface is bold but has rounded corners to maintain the friendly style.
Function
This fun design works well to attract families with children, young adults, and even older adults. The comical sight of a dinosaur on skis piques curiosity and provides an memorable image to relate to the experience.
Creating multiple orientations and color variations allows the client to use the logo effectively in any possible situation.
Results
I created some conceptual designs using the logo to present the final design to the client and excite them about the future of this new visual resource. The new logo gives a recognizable face and personality for new and returning guests.
